Simon Smith - Song Writer
Simon has been writing his own songs for around 30 years. Originally, most of his material used the piano as a backing instrument but this has switched to guitar over the last ten years as the instrument increasingly became his main choice.
Simon’s song writing style draws influence from a wide range of musical interests. He enjoys using rich chords and open, resonant strings in his writing, but equally includes traditional sequences to guarantee a catchy “hook” to a song. Simon likes rhyming lyrics and that is a consistent feature in most of his works.
Town Beside the Sea
Written in September 2025, this song is the story of how Simon met his wife Tracy in St Ives, Cornwall, back in 1993. Both Simon and Tracy spent a good part of their childhood growing up in the town and still have family connections there.
I Don’t Want to Know Your Name
Written in October 2025, this song is Simon’s interpretation of what goes through a girl’s mind when at a bar or club and is being harassed by a hopeful young man in whom she has no interest. There are popular social media memes which are partly the source of inspiration for this song.
